Stormbird is based for much of the year in the Grenadines lying between St Lucia and Grenada, but she is also able to re-position for cruises throughout the Caribbean.

The 30 islands and cays that comprise the Grenadines form the most beautiful cruising ground in the Caribbean. They reach like stepping stones between St Vincent and Grenada and are surrounded by coral reefs and clear blue waters ideal for diving, snorkelling and boating. Fewer than a dozen are inhabited and even these are lightly populated and barely developed.

These islands provide a huge selection of stunning sandy beaches and quiet bays just perfect for that holiday of a lifetime. Ideally suited to a one week cruise this area offers a very special opportunity for short hop sailing with a mix of sailing and lots of scope for relaxing and exploring ashore.

Sailing in an area much less developed than some of the more commercial islands further north you will enjoy a balance of secluded anchorages mixed with a variety of bars and restaurants and charming local hospitality. First class diving is supported by rendezvous dive boats or there are dozens of opportunities to enjoy snorkelling off the beaches and numerous reefs.

The Grenadines have good flight connections with many of the international hub islands making them a gateway to a truly memorable sailing vacation.

A popular one week charter itinerary is:

Day 1.

Join yacht in Bequia – known for its sailing and boatbuilding traditions. Enjoy a stroll around its colourful village . Amazing beaches and hiking with plenty of bars and restaurants to watch the colourful sunsets.

Day 2.

Set sail for Mustique - Exhilarating 2 hour sail to the home of the rich and famous. Mustique is very popular with guests enjoying a Caribbean “jump up” at the famous Basils Bar or a rather more formal meal at “Firefly” with stunning views over the anchorage.

Day 3.

Tobago Cays – 3 - 4 hour sail from Mustique. Anchor behind the horseshoe reef separating you from the ocean. A truly spectacular anchorage with the opportunity to swim with the turtles. Enjoy amazing snorkelling followed by a barbecued lobster dinner.

Day 4.

Mopion – short hop sail to this quintessential “ deserted island “ with only a single thatched hut in the middle of a sandbar 100 feet round. A great lunch stop and amazing photo opportunity. Move across to Petit St Vincent for the night . Enjoy a cocktail at the famous hotel and a stroll along the endless white sand beach.

Day 5.

Union Island - Enjoy lunch at “Palm island” anchoring just a short swim away from the beach. Sail round to Chatham Bay surrounded by steep green hills. Quite a contrast in scenery to the other islands and making a very enjoyable night stop.

Day 6.

Canouan - After yet another enjoyable sail we end the day at Canouan. A good starting point for our homeward leg to Bequia

Day 7.

Another opportunity to unwind in Bequia before your flight home. Options to depart from other islands are available. Itineraries are always flexible so please talk through your plans with us in advance or with your captain once on board.

Two week cruise option –

Two weeks just gives you more choices and a much more relaxed pace which is what all guests enjoy once on board Stormbird. Of course you can still join the yacht in the Grenadines but another popular option is to start your holiday in St Lucia with longer sails between the islands. Take in the sights of Marigot Bay (made famous by the film Dr. Doolittle) and the spectacular backdrop of the Pitons before heading south.

We do encourage one way trips south as these greatly increase your time in the Grenadines and makes for more comfortable sailing conditions with a 30 minute short hop flight back to St Lucia at the end of your stay.

Other alternatives include heading further south still and ending your stay in Grenada or opting to sail back to St Lucia – a great option for more hardened sailors.
